Fragrance-Free Liquid Detergent vs. Eco Laundry Strips (Tru Earth Type)

Laundry strips (such as Tru Earth or similar brands) are pre-measured, dissolvable strips that eliminate plastic jugs, reduce shipping weight, and typically use shorter ingredient lists than conventional liquid detergents. Most laundry strips are fragrance-free or low-fragrance, plant-surfactant based, and free from optical brighteners and synthetic dyes. Their main appeal is both environmental and safety-oriented: less packaging, simpler chemistry.

Fragrance-free liquid detergents include a wider range of products from basic formulations to more complex enzyme-based blends. They share the core benefit of eliminating synthetic fragrance — the primary concern in conventional laundry detergents — but may still contain optical brighteners, preservatives, and proprietary enzyme blends. Performance is generally reliable across both categories.

From a safety standpoint, both are 'better' rated options for the same core reason: no synthetic fragrance. The strips' advantage is often a shorter, more transparent ingredient list and reduced plastic waste. The trade-off is that strips can be less effective in cold water or for heavily soiled loads in hard water conditions. For everyday laundry in a modern machine, either is an excellent choice; the strips offer a slight edge in environmental profile and packaging simplicity.
